Hot off the press! We've thrilled to announce the fantastic news that Jane and Pete are married!
Jane recounts "I told you the news some time ago that Pete and I were engaged.....well, two weeks ago we were finally married!
Such a fabulous wedding; second time round for both of us, so a lovely, intimate gathering of family and close friends. Weather forecasts were grim, but by mid afternoon the sun broke through, and it was a perfect day in every way.
Of course I have to thank you once more for giving me the chance to meet such a wonderful, special man, who I'm planning, as I said in my wedding vows, to spend a lifetime of fun and adventures with.
I wish all other "sportzdaters" the happiness we've found!

In the early days of Sportzdating Energizerbunny and ZenDog realised that they had much more in common than catchy animal inspired usernames. Almost two years on and happily ensconced in their Mt Wellington love nest the couple are now looking to share the love by getting active for a great cause.

The organisation that Dr Barnard leads, The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) comprises 6000+ member Doctors and is based in the USA.  Huge congratulations to Cass and Neal and welcome to the very first sportzdating baby Oliver!
 Here's their story:
Well, here I am in the wee small hours, squeezing in this blurb about our new little fella Oliver as he drifts off for some more zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs after his feed. Its just 6 weeks ago that we delivered Oliver in to the world. Boy what a whirlwind of activity its been since then getting to know our gorgeous wee bloke, and enjoying all his changes. Its not much over a year ago that I met my wonderful man Neal through Sportzdating, and now here we are with our first child together. So just goes to show what gems life can throw your way when you open your heart and let love come in.
I'm 41 years old by the way, and thought I'd left it too late to meet a man and start a famly. To be honest I'd given up on the idea of finding just the man for me, and even if I eventually did (always hoped), I'd be too old to have children with him. And now, here I am, with a lovely lovely man who suits me so perfectly, and our gorgeous little fella. I'm absolutely head over heels in love with both my blokes, and have never ever been this happy in my whole life. So thank you Sportzdating, for everything I wished for, and more.

Here's their story....
Hi, my name is flojo35 and I met Vanquish8 on Saturday 18th December and we hit it off straight away. It was so easy talking to a fellow sports person, a coffee turned into two and I really did not want to leave at the end of two hours. I was so happy that he wanted to meet me again the following week. Vanquish8 is really into kayaking and I am really into swimming, so we understand each others training programmes and never make the other person feel guilty about training, in fact we delight in the other person’s joy that they clearly get from training well. As for competitions we again are fully supportive and know how it feels to win and lose and are happy to talk about the tweaks required to improve or maintain our standard.
I knew how much I was missing Vanquish8 when I went to the World Champs and he remained in Wellington. I won’t tell you how much I spent on texting, but let’s just say I am glad I am in full time employment.
Vanquish8 and I have just started to play golf together and yes it’s competitive and lots of one upmanship, but its great fun and we are still talking! We also go on heaps of walks. We go away together in a couple of weeks my challenge is to get him swimming, yes I know it’s a worry that he can’t or he says he can’t, but I am sure he can do more than he let’s on. As for me I am going to get my first lesson in a double kayak. We are both in education so we know how to teach, so there won’t be any shouting or unreasonable demands, yeah right!
We are together every week-end and text and email every day, I am looking forward to when we might be able to make it a more permanent arrangement, so keep watching this space and if Vanquish8 is reading this, the answer is ‘yes I do.’

Dec 2007 - Chistmas Couples

We checked in with a few sportzdating couples and this is what they're up to..
Energizerbunny and Zendog 5 months later ...
Energizerbunny did consider the possibility that too much Vitamin A in her carrots might have caused the chemical imbalance in her brain..how else could she explain her absolute resolution in both faith and affection for Zendog..so much so that she had built her burrow with him only two months into their whirlwind romance. Yet... one marathon, two bedside tables, three holidays, four housewarmings and five months of blissful co-habitation later, Energizerbunny can now breathe a sigh of relief as to the state of her mental faculty..
The happy duo have just finished decorating their first Christmas tree, planted their first trees and are looking forward to ushering in the new year together. They would like to share their happiness with everyone and wish that many would find and maintain the kind of surrealistic love that they have been lucky enough to discover with one another.
An update from another couple of southerners
All is going very well, and we are looking forward to spending our first Christmas together (we have just bought a hobie-cat, so planning on getting lots of sailing in, along with mountain-biking, kayaking and just enjoying spending time together). On the relationship front things could not be better...I am going to be moving in with him at the beginning of next year, and although this will require a fair amount of commuting for work, we know it will be worth it!

So still head over heels in love with my fabulous Mr Nealio. We're having weekend before xmas with Neal's family in Tauranga - I'm cooking for them the entire weekend (eeeeek!!). Then Christmas day in Auckland with family and friends. Heading down to Queenstown to celebrate New Years and enjoy a holiday break together. Yahoooo!! Moved in to Neal's place a month ago now, so its all go. Very happy, very in love, and very pleased I gave Sportzdating a go. This year I get to spend Christmas and New Years with my fabulous man - lucky me :-)

Our winners of the "find a good sort competition" Cass and Neal have spent a glorious weekend of 'good sport' in Rotorua where they rafted grade 5 water including a waterfall, shared a totally gourmet lunch, then went on a guided mountain bike trip on the latest GT full suspension bikes through spectacular terrain and scenery.
"Just wanting to thank Sportzdating for our out of this world weekend experience in Rotavegas. I was very impressed with the 2 guys who took us rafting, they worked hard, remained professional at all times, and made sure we had an absolute blast. Nick who took us mountain biking was a real gem. Beautifully spiritual, and gave both Neal and I the best ride ever. We learned a lot of handy tips and tricks as well. I had a few silly falls which got me all giggly. But then managed to pull myself together and actually stay on my bike. Interesting that Neal and I were both getting over some grotty virus, and still had a wonderful weekend. Highly recommend Nick and Tuk for an exclusive biking rafting experience. Loved the Kaituna river - majical. And the ginormous waterfall was exhilarating.

Sept 07 - Chch event finalised
|
9 times Speight’s Coast to Coast winner Steve Gurney will be taking sportzdaters on an orienteering adventure (walk/trot) around Godly head, exploring the tunnels. This will take place after work on Thursday 8th November at 6-8 pm followed by a hot chocolate, coffee or wine at a café in Sumner.
Cost will be $10 (includes map to share) plus coffee money. It’s an opportunity to enjoy a walk with the legend, learn a bit about orienteering and meet others in your area. It’ll be a pretty casual walking pace. Bring a headlamp or handtorch.

Sept 07 - Pre Auckland Marathon rendezvous?

There are a group of Sportzdaters taking on the Auckland Marathon on Sunday 29th October. With a few traveling to Auckland for the event, like the group of ladies from Christchurch, it’s a good opportunity for a catch up in person. Any sportzdater in Auckland at the time may want to join the group on Friday night - 26th October for a catch-up drink or coffee. This is just a free friendly get together for sporty singles, even bring a single friend.

Aug 07 - Relationship: Making it happen -- A SportzDating Teleconference Event!

Sportzdating would like to invite you to our kick off telephone seminar series with Dr Sportzdate. We're starting off with a guys seminar followed by a girls seminar. These initial seminars will cover off understanding the dynamics between guys and gals approach to relationships, how to understand your new connection and nurture it into something really special ....
We'll have a basic agenda of things to cover and we'll invite your questions, both prior to the session and during,. There are also summary notes and an audio recording of the session available.
Guys: Monday 5th November @ 8:30pm for approx 40 minutes
Girls: Monday 12th November @ 8:30pm for approx 40 minutes
The cost will be $30 for premium members and $40 for standard members.
Please note:
Our teleconference will involve a call to an international teleconference server. Please ensure that the calling plan on the phone you will be using involves low cost calling for the period of 40 minutes duration of the conference. Seminars are schedule in the evenings to not conflict with work and take advantage of off-peak charging (NZ time).

20 July 2007 - Orienteering Event up north
|
We sent our Sportzdaters off into the Hunua Ranges south east of Auckland.
The three sportzdating teams set off together in search of hidden controls, but not long into the 3 hour event the teams started to get a wee bit competitive and raced off in different directions.
They all must have listened to the Shaun’s (from Lactic Turkey) great Rogaine tips cos they all came back ... although if some didn’t perhaps we could have deemed that another kind of success ;-)
After another 2 or 3 flat whites each (compulsory post race recovery!) a bit more banter and our sportzdaters called it a day after a good adventurous winters day in the bush!

If you live in the north it’s time to get outside and get really muddy with your fellow sportzdaters. Nice way to warm up, meeting some friends & share some adventures at the same time!!! Read on ....
We’ll be entering some Sportzdating teams in the Lactic Turkey Hunua 3 hour Orienteering Rogaine on Saturday 7th July.
Whatever your ability, walk & talk, or run & chat, we’ll match people into teams of 4 or larger. The 3 hour Rogaine starts at 12pm (midday), with registration at 11am and get your maps etc.
What’s a rogaine?
It’s a grown up treasure hunt, like going on a tramp but finding hidden controls along the way. Heaps of fun, you may learn some new skills and meet some new people!

What if I don’t know which way to hold a compass let alone use it to find something?
Don’t worry you won’t be alone! Doesn’t matter if you don’t know which end of a compass is which .. there’ll be people in your team who do! If you want to learn something about orienteering in advance the Lactic Turkey event managers offer a free Navigation coaching session on Wednesday night 4th July at 6:30pm at Mt Eden Shoe Science. Just rock up and learn a few tricks.
Otherwise if you can’t make that then let us know – we can arrange some instructions at 10:30am on the day out at Hunua if people are interested.
If you’d like to join the fun please flick me an email asap (by Mon 2nd July at the latest!) with the following details: - Member name - Real name - Age - Cellph number - Have you any orienteering experience? - Do you have a compass? - Would your rather run, walk, or not fussed either way? - Do you want some orienteering tips on the day? (if so you’d need to arrive at 10:30am)
We’ll pop you into teams and let you know more closer to the date. The cost is $40 per person.

22 Mar 2007 - Auckland Kayaking Event Success!

The inaugual Kayaking Event was a success with the TV3 Sports Tonight crew coming along for the fun.
Lots of fun on the water as the sportzdaters headed off into the sunset in the safe hands of Steve Ferguson. The crew returned in the dark and headed upstairs for some refreshments and mingling with the others.
EnergizerBunny & Craig were awarded some great Fergs Kayak trips for being really good sports and having sportzdating boat cam. JanetB won the prize draw! Well done guys! |
