| It’s great to revel in the
times when what is good for our bodies and minds is also what we
feel like doing. Springtime is often such a season, as people, plants
and animals generally get a surge of energy. You might find yourself
thinking more about all those little tasks that have built up over
the winter. You'll also probably have noticed your neighbours out
painting their houses, digging their gardens, planting veggies and
so forth. Even the birds seem to be coaxing us out of bed just a
bit earlier, with their inviting spring songs.
|
 |
Go with those urges to rise early and get active. Spring is a time
when the body needs to let go of whatever it has accumulated over
the winter—whether a bit of extra weight, or just stored up
energy that didn’t get fully used during the short days and
cold evenings.
As it gets hotter and drier, you'd be smart to ease up again,
modifying activities to preserve some of the juicy moist energy
of spring. So go for it now, and don’t wait 'til mid-summer
when all you’ll want to do in the afternoon is take a siesta.
|
Here are our top Spring tips:
- Ramp up the activity and work up a good sweat in the cooler
mornings and evenings.
- You'll probably find your body feels best when you fuel it
with slightly drier, lighter food and lots of fresh fruit and
veges. Stodgy hot meals are more suitable for winter, so ease
of the heavy, fatty foods.
- Watch out for those UV rays—they don’t feel very
hot now, but they’re there and they can bite! Stick with
mainly indoor pursuits during the hours between 11am and 4pm.
