Back at the ol’ grindstone
after a too-short holiday? It's so easy to get caught up in the
New Year rush, catching up on things we didn't finish before the
holidays, that we forget about what lies ahead.
|
 |
Take a little time to plan your upcoming year, sorting
out your priorities for 2010 and putting down some solid foundations
for your plans. Even if nothing major has to change in your life,
look at how you can get more enjoyment from what you do. That might
mean finding out how you can be of most help to the people around
you. Research now reveals that the happiest people are those who spend
their days helping others to solve their problems or meet their critical
needs. In other words, for a more joyful life, prioritise the service
aspect of whatever you do.
|
To get some perspective on all that, you need a clear head. So try
a post-Christmas cleanse. The drop in appetite that most people experience
in summer is nature’s message to eat a little less and a little
lighter. This will also help sharpen up your brain.
Drink enough fluids and eat lots of the fresh seasonal fruit that's
in abundance at this time. Blueberries are particularly balancing
and detoxifying for the body, and melons give great hydration that’s
easier on the kidneys than just drinking heaps of water. Eat fruits
by themselves, though. Food combining principles indicate that digestion
suffers when fruit is eaten with other food, and this can lead to
signs of toxicity: bodyache, headaches, fuzzy thinking, bad breath
and lethargy.
Eating salads and any bitter leafy greens is good for cooling and
cleansing the body, and traditional Indian medicine says that bitter
foods clear your head and let you move into the future without attachment
to the past. That should help your New Year’s Resolutions
click into gear. Take it easy on the red meat and alcohol, or you
might find yourself getting a bit too pumped up and missing the
big picture.
